AA Browser Troubleshooting Guide
Experiencing difficulties installing or launching AA Browser on your vehicle display? Search or browse through common solutions below.
AA Browser Does Not Appear in Android Auto Launcher
Likely Cause: Android Auto Developer Settings have not been unlocked, or the Unknown Sources toggle is unchecked. See Google Android Auto Developer Guidelines for projection security requirements.
Resolution Steps:
- Disconnect your phone from the car USB cable.
- On your phone, navigate to Settings > Apps > Android Auto.
- Scroll down to the Version row at the very bottom.
- Tap Version 10 times consecutively until prompted to enable developer settings, then tap OK.
- Tap the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner > select Developer settings.
- Scroll down and verify that Unknown sources is checked ON.
- Force close the Android Auto app or restart your smartphone.
- Reconnect to your vehicle. AA Browser will now appear in your vehicle app grid!
"App Not Installed" or Package Conflict Error
Likely Cause: An older or differently signed version of AA Browser is already installed, or your phone lacks sufficient storage space.
Resolution Steps:
- Go to phone Settings > Apps and search for any previous AA Browser installation.
- Uninstall the older version completely.
- Restart your phone to clear temporary package installer cache.
- Download the fresh
AABrowser-v3.0.apkfrom our verified download page. - Install the new package.
Black Screen or Infinite Spinner on Vehicle Display
Likely Cause: Android System WebView is outdated on your phone, or battery optimization is throttling the browser process.
Resolution Steps:
- Open Google Play Store on your phone and search for Android System WebView. Ensure it is updated to the latest version.
- Go to Settings > Apps > AA Browser > Battery and set battery usage to Unrestricted.
- Ensure your car is in Park (P) with the emergency brake engaged. Some vehicles blank third-party apps if the parking brake switch is disengaged.
Video Doesn't Play or Audio Stutters
Likely Cause: Attempting to stream DRM-protected services (like Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video) which cannot stream over Android Auto projection, or Bluetooth audio latency. Refer to Widevine DRM Security Architecture for hardware pipeline requirements.
Resolution Steps:
1. DRM Restrictions: AA Browser supports open HTML5 video players (YouTube, Vimeo, news websites). Services requiring Widevine L1 DRM cannot project over Android Auto due to Google and studio hardware encryption policies.
2. Audio Routing: If audio is playing through phone speakers instead of car speakers, open car sound settings and verify that Bluetooth media is paired to your phone.
Intermittent Disconnections Over USB Cable
Likely Cause: Low-quality charging-only USB cable or dirty vehicle USB port.
Resolution Steps:
- Use a certified high-speed USB 3.1 / USB-C data cable under 1 meter (3.3 feet) in length.
- Avoid using multi-port USB splitters or cigarette lighter adapters; plug directly into the car's primary Android Auto data port.
- Clean lint or dust from the phone charging port with a wooden toothpick.
